I awoke early, leaving my family behind in the camper, escaping to catch the “Sunrise on Mormon Row Barn”. Problem: I didn’t know where it was, and not many places are open at 5am, not even the gas station coffee shops. All I knew, is that it was “near the airport”. So, driving up and down side streets, residential neighborhoods, didn’t give me The Barn. Finally, a woman walking her dog. She looked at me, said, “Go to where a rock cliff juts out and then make a right. Drive up a mile or so, it’s on your right.” Finally.
Couldn’t miss it, or rather the van packed with other early morning photogs; or the cars belonging to still more photogs. Darn. How can I get MY shot if they are in the way? Patience. Sun up, photogs leaviing. Only one other was left. Buffalo coming. Oh, no! BUFFALO! What the heck am I going to do? Shoot! Shoot! They keep coming - will they chase me? Where to go? Back up? Keep shooting. Card full, switch cameras. AAGH! I’m shooting jpeg fine, not RAW! What is that other photog doing? Is he CRAZY? Dude, get back. He’s walking up to the buffalo! OMG. He is going to get killed! What is he doing? Shall I shoot him getting killed or the buffalo stampeding? Eye on both, shoot the buffalo. What if…there - they are crossing in front of the barn! Great - zoom in - NO! Zoom out. YES. Okay, I just need them to position themselves JUST LIKE THIS!
